Description

The Peacock Chair was a design 1947 and is a masterpiece. Due to the chairs characteristically backrest it is named “Peacock”.

Its modern elements are barley an aspect of appearance. The extravagant backrest with its formed poles contributes to the ergonomics. The flat parts, which give the “peacock” like appearance, are exactly located to where the shoulder blades are to rest on.

Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured. His work is representative of the excellent craftsmanship and commitment to modern living that made mid-century Danish design internationally popular.
