Marcel Breuer (1902-1981)

Marcel Breuer Marcel Lajos („Lajkó “) Breuer (* May 21st, 1902 in Fünfkirchen, Austro-Hungary; † July 1st, 1981 in New York) was a German-American architect and designer of Hungarian-Jewish origin. After carpenter apprenticeship at Bauhaus Weimar Breuer worked in the office of Walter Gropius for several years, but then became independent. In 1933 he emigrated from the Third Reich due to his Jewish origin and moved via Hungary and London into the USA. There he established, among other things, the Architecture Faculty of the Harvard University in cooperation with Gropius.
