Josef Hoffman (1871 - 1956)

Josef Hoffmann was born in 1870 in Moravia (today Czech Republic). It studied architecture at the Akademie der freien Künste in Vienna and opened its own studio in 1898. From 1899-1936 he taught at the Academy and at the same time he designed houses and interiors for many contemporary artists. For his drafts Hoffman preferential used the geometrical and here particularly cubic forms that set fundamental standards for modern furniture Design.
