Poul Henningsen (1894–1967)

Poul Henningsen Designer, author, architect and critic, Poul Henningsen was born into an intellectual and upper class family in Denmark, 1894. Famed for his innovative lighting design, Henningsen was also one of the leading cultural figures in Denmark between both World Wars.
Inspired by nature and form, Henningsen’s design style was both unique and provocative. He didn’t believe in the mundane and obvious, once stating, ”All political art is bad – all good art is political.”
Celebrated worldwide, Poul Henningsen’s work remains within several notable 20th-century design collections, including that of the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. Henningsen was also given the prestigious honour of designing a piece for Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen.
