The Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer is an impressive piece created during the designer’s work for the cabinet-making workshops at the Bauhaus in Germany. The intricate construction was inspired by the tubular handlebars of a bicycle. Breuer created the revolutionary Wassilly chair using new technology enabling steel to be bent without breaking. Its distinctive design impressed artists from the rank of Kandinsky, who ordered one for their personal quarters. The chair is extremely comfortable, as the minimal upholstery is carefully placed to offer maximum support for the body.
INFURN produces the artistic Wassily Chair in a chrome-plated steel worked frame and quality classic or premium leather upholstery in a variety of colors.
Marcel Lajos („Lajkó “) Breuer (* May 21st, 1902 in Fünfkirchen, Austro-Hungary; † July 1st, 1981 in New York) was a German-American architect and designer of Hungarian-Jewish origin. After carpenter apprenticeship at Bauhaus Weimar Breuer worked in the office of Walter Gropius for several years, but then became independent. In 1933 he emigrated from the Third Reich due to his Jewish origin and moved via Hungary and London into the USA. There he established, among other things, the Architecture Faculty of the Harvard University in cooperation with Gropius.
